Hi @Mike P.,

Thanks for using Enpass and writing to us.

Please make sure you are using the correct master password by checking the caps lock off. Also, please try copy and pasting your master password in the password field to check if that works. If the problem persists, please share some more info so that we can check further.

  • On which all devices (along with OS version) are you using Enpass?
  • Which Enpass version are you using on each device?
  • Which cloud services are you using?
  • Does your master password contains any special character?

Thanks for your cooperation.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a similar problem. I have enpass on my windows laptop. The back up and sync files are on a synology server. I am installing my wifes new MacAir and want to install enpass there too and get the files by restoring a back up file from my server. In the end it asks for the masterpassword. Which I entered. It says the password is not correct. I checked several times. But I used the correct masterpassword.

On my windows is still the enpass v 6.4.2. The enpass on the Mac I just downloaded from the app store. Soi it will be a higher version. However my windows app doesn't update for unknown reasons. I posted another question about that a while ago.

However: how is it possible my masterpassword is not recognised? And what is the solution?

Hey @LejoS

Sorry for the trouble.

Please update the Enpass app on your windows device using the below steps and then try again to restore the Enpass database on the macOS device. Let me know if this doesn't help you.

  • Take the backup of Enpass data and save it locally.
  • Close the app.
  • Download Enpass from this link(website version is given at the bottom).
  • Install Enpass app and restore the data from backup file saved locally.

Thanks!

Hello Pratyush,

Have Enpass 6.5.2 on iMac 23017 (Big Sur) and MacBook Pro 2012 (Catalina-latest). The iMac  setup works fine, but whenever I tried to open Enpass on the laptop, it reported incorrect Master. I tried to download app from Apple Store to attempt again- no luck. I use iCloud on both (Documents folder in cloud on laptop only). Master contains characters _, !, *.

Hey @Mike P. @LejoS

Apologies for the trouble.

If you are able to access all Enpass data on your windows/iMAC device, then please follow the below steps to restore the same data on the macOS(laptop)-

  • Take the complete backup of Enpass data from your windows device/iMac device(in which you have all the data) using these steps. Open Enpass > Click on ‘File’ from the Enpass menu > Click on 'Backup all vaults' > Select the location and save it.
  • Now login to your cloud account on the same windows/iMac device and upload the backup folder in the Enpass app folder.
  • Now login to your cloud account on your macOS laptop, download the same backup folder data and save it locally.
  • Open Enpass on your the same macOS laptop (in which you downloaded the backup data folder) and restore the data from the backup file saved locally.

If the Enpass app still does not unlock the application with the correct master password then please update the same to us so that we can investigate further.

Thanks!

I tried your recommended fix, to no avail. I both manually copied the backup file to iCloud Drive, and also copied it thru the sync within the app. Both files failed to open on my laptop, and reported "incorrect password". At this point I'm ready to dump all passwords into another app that might remember me more conveniently, but I will give you one more attempt at allowing use on my laptop. Let me know when you have a fix.

Hey @Mike P.

Apologies for the trouble.

As you have synced the Enpass data with iCloud and also you are able to access Enpass data on your iMac, then follow the below steps on the macOS Laptop-

Please uninstall the existing Enpass and re-install the Enpass app again from our website using this link (click on download given in the bottom) and restore the Enpass data from the iCloud. If the Enpass app still does not unlock the application with the correct master password then please update the same to us so that we can investigate further.

Thanks!
