Hi,

I have been using Enpass for years now and never had any issues that would make me create an account here, and yet here I am. Since WIndows Hello was added in Enpass I have used it to activate Enpass every single time.

In my windows 11 installation as soon as I booted up if I wanted to use Enpass it would only ask for the WIndows Hello Pin and NOT the Master Password. It was amazing.

Recently I reset my PC, installed everything I need and then downloaded Enpass from the WIndows Store. but for some weird reason the Windows Hello stopped working when I reboot, and now it always asks for Master Password.

At first I thought it was that maybe I needed to clear the TPM keys, so I did so.

I was using a local account, so I thought maybe the API checks if I have a Microsoft Online Account, so I converted my account to a Microsoft Account and still does not work.

Cleared my TPM again after converting my local account to a Microsoft account. Still asks for Master password.

I checked what is the API that enpass might be using from the Microsoft Store to use WIndows Hello, and it seems like it might be a legacy oine and enpass was never properly updated but I am not sure if that is the case.

I reset my PC again, this time I did use my Microsoft account from the start instead of a Local account, but still I am having the same issue. It keeps asking Master Password everytime ENpass is closed or the PC reboots.

Nothing in the hardware has changed, not even a mouse of keyboard. It is the exact same system that was working before the reset.

TPM version 2.0

This must be what began 'causing Enpass to no longer function with Windows Hello on my Surface Pro 7+. Enpass was working fine for some time after a long while of dealing with its Windows Hello Dialog freezing whenever I attempt unlocking it. However, after the most recent update on August 22nd, 2025 to v6.11.13 (2032), Enpass Windows Hello dialog no longer got displayed, I was always getting prompted for my Master Password.

Thinking it was because of some System Security settings I had temporarily changed in Windows Security, I attempted disabling Windows Hello in Enpass then re-enabling it. However, to my surprise, I wasn't able to re-enable the check box; it just briefly displays blinks checked then goes unchecked again:

So, it's most likely due to the API being used that's no longer compatible with Windows Hello on Windows 11 24H2. Hey Enpass team, please fix this and implement Passkey integration with Windows, similar to 1Password if that's 100% locally possible, let us know if it requires sending anything to microsoft: Windows 11 gets 1Password passkey integration, version 25H2, and more with the latest builds - Neowin.

The Microsoft Store version of Enpass should unlock directly with Windows Hello even after a system restart, so the behavior you're experiencing is not expected.

@zerohart

To investigate this further and provide you with a resolution, please share the below details

  1. The Enpass app version installed from the Microsoft Store
  2. Your Windows 11 build/version

@MrElectrifyer

Please close the Enpass app completely using Ctrl + Q, then reopen it and let us know if you’re able to enable the Windows Hello option.

Hey @Tarun Singh Rawat, closing and reopening Enpass made no difference on my setup, still can't enable Windows Hello:

in my case I can enable WIndows Hello, but the option to use it for quick unlockl every time stopped working after the reset

Now it ask for MasterPassword every time I log in instead of just the Hellow Pin Code

Ok I was able to fix it.

GOing to leave this here, in case someone else has the same issue or if you guys can work around on identifying why it happens.

I was going to reset my PC one more time, but I was offline, when doing so I got an error message saying I cannot reset because I was on a Windows To Go installation.

Did a quick search on Google about that.

To fix that issue I opened regedit then nagivate to  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control, find and delete the PortableOperatingSystem and deleted the whole thing.

Rebooted the PC and before I tried to reset again I opened Enpass, went to Settings, disabled WIndows Hello and when I clicked on enable again it worked

hopefully this csan help anybody with the same issue in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in detail. We’re glad to hear you were able to resolve the issue. We’ll review this behavior on our side to understand why it occurs and see how we can improve Enpass to handle such cases better in the future.

Don't have such item in my registry, so, it's something else that's 'causing it in my case:

@MrElectrifyer Thank you for confirming. Since the PortableOperatingSystem registry item isn’t present in your case, it seems the cause is different. I’ve shared your details with our Technical Team and asked them to investigate further. I’ll keep you updated here with any findings, and if we need additional information, I’ll reach out directly on this thread.

We really appreciate your support and patience while we look into this.

To assist you more effectively, I would greatly appreciate your help with a few details:

  1. Could you kindly confirm if the Windows authentication pop-up appears when you try enabling Windows Hello? If possible, a short video of this behavior would be incredibly helpful.

  2. Please share the version of your TPM to ensure we're on the same page with your system's configuration.

  3. In Enpass, could you enable logging, then attempt to enable Windows Hello again? Once done, please send over the generated logs so I can take a closer look.

  4. If possible, please test with the latest version of Enpass from the Windows Store or the most recent build from our website. This will help us determine if the issue persists with the latest updates.

  5. As a final step, I recommend testing with a fresh local Windows profile to rule out any profile-specific issues.

Please share these details at support@enpass.io, and we will assist you directly on the ticket.

@Tarun Singh Rawat Thanks for the response, following are answers to your questions:

  1. Nope, the Windows authentication pop-up doesn't appear when I try enabling Windows Hello. The GIF earlier posted above shows exactly what happens.
  2. TPM Details are as follows (also updated in Signature): image.thumb.png.e1c91f13867315466e3856589fbd63d2.png
  3. Logs generated have been sent to support@enpass.io.
  4. The latest version I'm currently seeing on the Windows Store is v6.1113.2032.0 image.png.e568e432329721a433ef4a2f42a341c8.png, and that's what I tested it with. It mentions on your website that there's a newer version (6.11.14), but haven't received it here in Canada yet. Will try it too once received.
  5. Will reattempt in Windows Sandbox once the new app becomes available.

Ok, just saw the update on the Windows Store and updated to Enpass v6.11.14. I can confirm Windows Hello is functioning again in Enpass on my Surface Pro 7+ without any other system changes. Thanks Enpass team 👍🏽
