Why is microsoft forcing me to download enpass from their store?  

I use google & chrome.

If you do not want the Premium features that are available as a purchase only through the Microsoft Store then you can download Enpass from here:

https://dl.enpass.io/stable/windows/setup/6.1.0.407/Enpass-setup.exe

However if you do want the Premium features then they are only accessible via the Windows Store, but your choice of search engine and browser have nothing to do with that.

I understand that, but having to go through windows store is an undesirable approach for me using Win10 and linux.

Undesirable it might be for Windows but that is the path Sinew have taken, Linux however you can install quite easily: https://www.enpass.io/support/kb/general/how-to-install-enpass-on-linux/
