In the event of duress, someone threatening or police or other pressure, a pass phrase or word typed in, instead of the usual password, that would lock out, wipe or scramble all password data. Yes, you could refuse to give out the password, but as long as the data existed there would be the possibility that eventually they could find the password. 1
