"Open Automatically at System Startup" does not work

Featured Replies

Possibly after installing Windows Update KB5060842, Enpass stopped loading during startup.  The checkbox to enable "Open Automatically at System Startup" does not stay checked between restarts.  In Task Manager -> Startup apps, Enpass shows "disabled" by default.  It can be changed to "enabled" there, but it won't stay enabled between restarts.  When checking the properties of the Enpass startup process here, the following error message appears:

"Windows cannot find 'EnpassStartup/EnpassStartup.exe.'  Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again."

For now, I have a shortcut to the Enpass executable in the startup folder, but this is not an ideal solution as it prompts to unlock Enpass during startup instead of just loading minimized like the "Open Automatically..." option does.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Enpass from the WIndows Store with no change in behavior.  This happened once before a few months ago but the issue somehow resolved itself after a few days.

Any guidance is appreciated.  Thank you.

It seems the problem might be related to the recent Windows Update (KB5060842), which could be interfering with the Enpass startup service. The error regarding 'EnpassStartup/EnpassStartup.exe' suggests that the startup entry may be broken or incorrectly registered.

Please try the following steps:

1. Remove any broken startup entries:

  • Open Task Manager and go to the Startup tab.

  • If Enpass is listed with a missing path or error, right-click it and select Disable.

2. Manually reset the startup option in Enpass:

  • Open Enpass.

  • Go to Settings > General.

  • Uncheck "Open Automatically at System Startup", then close Enpass completely.

  • Reopen Enpass, check the option again, and then restart your system to see if the setting is retained.

If the issue persists, please share the following so we can assist you better:

  • Your current Enpass version

  • Your Windows build number

  • Whether you're using Enpass from the Microsoft Store or the desktop version

We’re happy to help further.

I cannot find the "Startup Apps" setting in my build of Windows 11.  Please provide steps for locating this setting.  Thank you.

To access the Startup Apps settings on your Windows 11 device, please type Startup into the search bar next to the Start menu. From the results, select Startup Apps to view and manage the applications that launch at startup.

  4. Toggle the switch on to allow Enpass to start automatically when Windows boots.
  5. Click the “>” (More Options) icon next to Enpass.
  6. Check Background app permissions and ensure it’s set to "Always" if the option is available

Thank you.  There is no "Startup" option under "Apps" in my build of Windows 11.  However, I was able to find the "Background app permissions" setting in Apps -> Installed apps -> Enpass -> Advanced options."  Unfortunately, changing the setting to "Always" does not change the startup behavior.
