johnpank Posted June 22, 2023 Report Posted June 22, 2023 (edited) I have Enpass for desktop on Windows 10. I wanted to (1) Copy the Enpass data files from the original location "C:\users\johnpank\Enpass" to D:\ENPASS and (2) sync this folder using Google Drive, so I can access it from my other PC's. I copied my existing Enpass data files to D:\ENPASS. I right-clicked on D:\ENPASS and selected the Google Drive option "Sync or Backup this folder". Now this folder appears on my Google Drive under "Computers/AsusLaptop/ENPASS'. Then I wanted to change the data file location within Enpass settings to D:\ENDPASS. But in trying to do this it gave me the option to "Sync to the Cloud" and one of the choices was "Google Drive". Therefore I selected this and followed all the prompts. When I was done, a different version of Enpass opened on my PC. It said "Enpass Light". Now I had two versions of Enpass running. When I looked in the settings to see where the Enpass data files were, it said they were in D:\ENPASS\Enpass. It had created a subfolder "Enpass" within D:\ENPASS that has a second copy of .settings, Backups and Vaults. Now I don't know where I am and how to get back to a normal system. Abhishek Dewan Posted June 23, 2023 Report Posted June 23, 2023 Hi @johnpank Welcome to the Enpass Forums. From your comments, it seems that you may have accidentally installed two different versions of the Enpass app. To remedy this situation, you can re-setup the Enpass app so only one version exists on your system by referring to the below steps - Open the Enpass app and ensure that all your Items are Vaults are present. After confirming, create a manual backup of your Enpass data. Remove both versions of the Enpass app by going to Enpass Settings -> Advanced -> Erase Everything. You can also refer to this link. Reinstall the Enpass app and restore the Enpass data on the welcome screen using the backup file. Set up cloud sync on this device by going to - Enpass Setting’s → Vaults → Select the Vault for which you would like to setup sync → Setup Sync → Select the cloud (Google Drive) → Continue. On the welcome screen of the Enpass application on your other devices, choose to Restore Existing -> Cloud account to which you synced the details above → Enter Vault password → Continue . All the passwords will be synced to your device.
johnpank Posted June 23, 2023 Author Report Posted June 23, 2023 (edited) I did steps 1 - 3. But it is still saying, on the setting advanced tab, that the data location is "D:\Enpass\Enpass". I want to change this to just "D:\enpass". But it won't let me. It tells me "New location can not be inside current location". I erased everything, so why does it still have this as the data location? I even erased the entire d:\enpass folder. There is another problem. After re-installing, I get a yellow banner on the bottom, saying "Unlock more features for free". If I click on "Activate" it eventually seems to install and switch me to a different version of the Enpass app. Instead of the "website version" that I installed, it switches me to "Enpass Light". Instead of using steps 4-5 to setup sync, I found I just needed to do this: Add the Enpass folder to Google Drive Restore the Enpass data from Google Drive on a second computer. Is there any disadvantage to do it this way, as opposed to running "Setup Sync" from within the Enpass settings? If not, I would prefer not to use the Enpass "Setup Sync", since I don't know what it is doing under the covers. Edited June 24, 2023 by johnpank more info
Abhishek Dewan Posted June 26, 2023 Report Posted June 26, 2023 Hi @johnpank Unable to change data location - Could you please confirm if you have installed the Enpass app from the Windows Store or our official website? I would like to share that the option to change database location is only available for app downloaded from Enpass website. If you have downloaded Enpass from Windows store, it won’t be possible to change the database location. If you have downloaded the app from our website and still cannot change the data location, please share the exact version of the Enpass app you are using along with the screenshot of the error. "After re-installing, I get a yellow banner on the bottom, saying "Unlock more features for free". If I click on "Activate" it eventually seems to install and switch me to a different version of the Enpass app" - Activation requires only an e-mail address for registration, which is used to activate Enpass on your devices. Could you please share the screenshot you are referring to and if possible, create a small video of the concern and share it with us at support@enpass.io. "Is there any disadvantage to do it this way, as opposed to running "Setup Sync" from within the Enpass settings?" We recommend setting up sync from the main Enpass app to avoid any potential sync errors/issues. You can also refer to this link to learn about synchronization and security with Enpass.
