Unable to export data in any format

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm unable to export my vault's data into a file using any available format (JSON / CSV / TXT).

I always receive an error "An error occured while exporting the vault" (see attached screenshot).
Error occurs both in the App Store version of the app and the one downloaded from the website (freshly installed).

I've tried selecting the Documents or Desktop folders, making subfolders in them, different file names - nothing seems to work.
I also tried enabling the logs in the Advanced section of the Settings, but it just shows me an empty output (so I assume this error is not even being logged).

Enpass version: 6.10.1 (1661)
MacOS version: Sonoma 14.4.1 (M1 chip)

Do you have enough disk space to export to?  I ran into that problem.

More than 1Tb which should hopefully be enough for a text export.

Maybe the fact that I have 529 items is the culprit? Maybe it's too much to handle for the export tool? (although in that case it still should parse it, just in chunks).

Just tried again on my Windows laptop, happens there as well.

To assist you effectively, could you please provide the following information:

  • The  hardware details and version of OS of the Mac.
  • Number of Items and attachments you have saved in the Enpass app.
  • Any cloud service you are using to synchronize the data.*
  • Is this  issue reproducible every-time? If yes, please share a screen record of this.

With this information, I'll be better equipped to understand and address your concerns. Feel free to provide any additional details or screenshots if needed.

Same issue on the latest update to the version 6.11.0 (1677).

Any ETA would be nice.

It looks like you're having trouble exporting your vault data in the password manager. Below is a step-by-step approach that can be used to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue.

I can recommend you certain steps:

- Check app version and updates

- Make sure you are using the latest version of your password manager

- Pay attention to any error codes or additional information provided in the error message

- Check file permissions and locations

- Try alternative export formats

If none of the above steps solve the problem, please contact the support team or the community forums related to the password manager application.

No offense but your post is useless.

This seems to be a recurring "issue" with him haha.

Besides this, have you checked, if Enpass has all the accessrights to the folders its exporting from and to?

Someone else in a completly different post stated for a complete unrelated topic, the folder he had to use needed the name "Enpass". Have you tried this for exporting?

Yeah, that was the first thing I checked.

But since I can reproduce this literally on every device and OS I know (including Android and iOS apps), I doubt that it's a permission issue.

I tried replicating your bug, created a vault with 716 entries, including attachements. Synced it with OneDrive. Exported without issues.

So my guess is, maybe your vault file is somehow corrupted? When you say, you can reproduce the bug on every device - have you tried setting up a new vault and copying all your entries into the new one, exporting it? I know this is not a good procedure, but it might help you in the long run?

Hey, just saw your answer.

What do you mean by exporting it into another vault? I tried making a backup of mine and restoring it - it works, but you can't still export items from it.

1. Create a completly new vault at another sync location.

2. Mark all your current entries and select "Add to Vault". Select your new valt and choose "Copy". Now you'll see all your entries duplicated into the new vault.

3. Now try exporting your entries from the new vault.

Thanks, tried this, same error.

At least now I know that's a feature :)

Hello, I use 1Password for many years and this week I tested Enpass for the first time. Everything was imported correctly from 1Password to Enpass. BUT I do not want to be locked-in. So I tried to export my Enpass vault to a csv file. This fails every time I tried it. I get the same message as mentioned above: "An error occurred while exporting the vault. I tested Enpass on a Macbook with Sequoia 15.3.2

This problem was posted almost a year ago and seems still not solved? This is really a dealbreaker. Enpass isn't an option for me if there is no good solution for exporting a vault to a csv file

Could you please try downloading and installing Enpass directly from our website (Enpass Downloads), set up your vault, and then attempt to export it in .csv format again? This ensures that you're using the latest version with all necessary components.

I'm having this exact same issue on Enpass 6.11.12 (1953) running on Linux (Kernel: linux 6.14.0-37-generic). Enpass Pro lifetime user. Plenty of RAM, plenty of disk space.

This needs to be resolved ASAP, or I'm going to recommend a hard pass on Enpass to every person I know.

After experimenting, it looks like there is a hard limit of 200 entries for exports. Unacceptable in what is supposed to be a professional program.

Edit To Add: Plus, after moving a block of entries into a "Temporary" vault, you have to close and restart the program before it sees them.

Edited by ehbowen

All right. Managed to export everything, using seven separate blocks of exports, except one entry which apparently had special characters which made .json choke, although it was saved just fine in Enpass. I also found that passkeys and entries with attachments and multiple items/passwords often had to be exported separately, although only the one entry did not export at all.

Bottom line: I've found, and posted, more about this problem in one hour than your vaunted Technical Team has discovered and posted in a year and a half. And I don't even claim any IT expertise; I boil water for a living!

Do you really expect more than a two-star review, anywhere?

Hello ehbowen,

Thank you for your replies and for analysis. I agree with you, Enpass should have solved this issue a long long time ago.

I think there is also a huge problem with Enpass for Android. After copying an password to the clipboard, this entry is NOT deleted from the clipboard after, for instance, 10 seconds. The entry stays in the clipboard. Enpass creates only a new blank entry in the clipboard.....

I pointed the Android issue out to them more than a year ago
